License Plates for 100% Service-Connected Disabled Veterans in Washington State

Did you know that if you have a 100% service-connected disability, you can get a free license plate from Washington State?

The rules, from the WA Department of Licensing, are as follows:
  • WA state vehicle owner
  • Served in any branch of the armed forces of the United States, Reserves, or National Guard
  • Honorable discharge or a discharge for medical reasons with an honorable record.
  • 100% service-connected disability rating from the Veterans Administration or the military.
Terms and conditions:
  • Submit your letter and application correctly; it's not hard but you do have to check the boxes.
  • No cost to get these plates or tabs
  • Exempt from paying license fees on 1 vehicle per year
  • You’re not required to renew your Disabled American Veteran license plates or tabs
  • These plates are good for the life of the veteran
  • This plate does NOT give you disabled parking privileges. Apply for that separately.

  1. How come it's only for 100 disabled Veteran? I live here most of my life I am a veteran..I moved from Washington State to Houston Texas. And you get DV plates for Veterans starting at 60 percent! Wit a hella of a lot of perks! You can park in the handicap, you pay no toll fees, you can take trips and leave your car at the airport for as long as you want. While you're on vacation and you don't have to pay for it. Plus you can also get the plates for up to 10 cars! But they all have to be your cars .... And it's also the same way in Louisiana and Mississippi! So why is Washington State and other states treat the disabled veterans with no respect! It should be like this in every state for veterans above 60 percent ....

    2. I'm not sure what Washington you're referring to. It certainly can't be WA State. DV plates have always required 100% service connected disability. They don't and never have entitled you to park in a handicap spot, unless you have disabled parking placards.

    3. Denny we have this plate and filled out the portion on the application so that we could have parking privileges. We have had isssues with this though but every time we call the state about it they have told us yes we can park in handicapped parking. It’s very confusing to say the least.

    4. Move to Texas, Mississippi, or Louisiana. Sound like you'll fit in perfect. And by leaving WA and moving to TX, LA, or MS you'll raise the IQ of both states.
